**BugOwl** is a Chrome extension for bug reports from one of Pagerly's partners. It works with Pagerly out of the box. Anyone who spots a bug takes a screenshot or a recording; BugOwl attaches what an engineer needs to reproduce it and files it where your team already works.

## What every report includes

* The screenshot or recording, with arrows, boxes, text and blur if you add them
* **Console** logs, warnings and errors from the page
* **Network** requests with status codes and timing - failing ones are highlighted
* The **clicks and steps** that led to the bug
* Browser, operating system and screen size
* A **share link** (getbugowl.com/…) that anyone you send it to can open, no login needed

{% hint style="info" %}
Authorization headers, cookies and API keys are always removed before anything leaves the browser, and request bodies are never sent for login, auth and token URLs.
{% endhint %}

## Two-minute setup

1. Open [getbugowl.com/install](https://www.getbugowl.com/install), download BugOwl and add it to Chrome (the page walks you through it; the Chrome Web Store listing is in review).
2. Pin the owl to your toolbar, click it and choose **Sign in with Pagerly**. Approve access on the Pagerly page that opens.
3. That's it. Destinations come from your Pagerly organisation: every team with a Slack channel, incidents, and the Jira, Linear and Asana you have connected under **My Integrations**.

## Report a bug

| Shortcut (Mac / Windows) | Captures                         |
| ------------------------ | -------------------------------- |
| `⌥⇧S` / `Alt+Shift+S`    | The visible part of the page     |
| `⌥⇧A` / `Alt+Shift+A`    | A region you drag out            |
| `⌥⇧R` / `Alt+Shift+R`    | A recording of this tab          |
| `⌥⇧F` / `Alt+Shift+F`    | A recording of your whole screen |

The editor opens with the capture. Add a title and what went wrong, annotate if you like, then pick a destination under **File this report**:

* **Team channel** - posts the report with the screenshot to that team's Slack channel
* **Incident** - declares a Pagerly incident at the severity you choose; the team's on-call is paged as usual
* **Jira / Linear / Asana** - creates an issue or task with the details and the capture attached

Edits save to the share link automatically, and **Copy link** puts it on your clipboard.

## Let the AI SRE investigate

When filing to a team channel or an incident, tick **Ask Pagerly's AI SRE to investigate**. It reads the console errors, failing requests and clicks from the report, checks your team's connected tools, and posts a root-cause analysis in the Slack thread. This uses Pagerly's AI features, so AI must be switched on for your organisation.

## Not on Pagerly yet?

Anyone can use BugOwl without a Pagerly account: choose **Sign in** and enter your email to get a one-time code. You get share links and can connect your own Slack channel, Linear or Jira to file reports. Incidents, Asana and the AI SRE need Pagerly.

## FAQ

**Sign in with Pagerly says AI features are switched off.** BugOwl files through Pagerly's AI (MCP) connection, so it cannot sign in to an organisation that has asked for AI to be off. An organisation admin can ask <hello@pagerly.io> to switch it back on; until then, sign in with your email instead.

**The screenshot did not appear in Slack.** Invite the Pagerly app to the team's channel (`/invite @Pagerly`) so it can upload files. Older Pagerly installs may need reinstalling from the dashboard to get file uploads.

**The console tab says "Nothing logged".** BugOwl was added after that page loaded. Reload the page and capture again.

**Where is my data stored?** Reports are stored by Pagerly on AWS in the United States and visible only to people with the link. See the [BugOwl privacy policy](https://www.getbugowl.com/privacy).
